Three WooCommerce abandoned cart email templates you can adapt
Start by helping the shopper finish, then offer help with what stopped them. These original copy examples form a three-message sequence you can use in WakeMyCart Free’s three customizable layouts; both editions let you edit and add basic reminders. Pro adds designs, conditional flows and experiments. The same configurable frequency safeguard and recorded shopper permission apply in both editions. More messages are an option, not a target.
Before you send the first reminder
Use an address captured with the shopper permission your store requires. Confirm the unsubscribe link, sender details and checkout restoration on a test cart. Pause overlapping recovery tools so two systems cannot send the same campaign.
The suggested delays below are starting points, measured from the cart’s last activity. They are not proven best-performing timings for your store. Stop the sequence when the shopper purchases, withdraws permission or becomes suppressed.
Email 1: a helpful reminder · try 1 hour
Make the saved cart easy to find. Avoid a discount in the first message when a straightforward reminder could be enough.
Subject: Your cart at {{store}} is saved
Hi {{first_name}},
You left a few things in your cart. If you would like to continue, your saved checkout is ready below.
Have a question before you order? Reply to this email and we will help.
Thanks,
The {{store}} teamButton text: Return to my cartEmail 2: help with the decision · try 24 hours
Offer a real way to get help. Only invite replies if someone monitors the sender mailbox; otherwise give a working support contact in your copy.
Subject: A question about your {{store}} order?
Hi {{first_name}},
Still deciding? If you have a question about fit, delivery or your checkout, reply and tell us what you need.
You can also return to the items you saved below. The checkout will show current availability and prices before you pay.
The {{store}} teamButton text: Review my saved itemsEmail 3: close the loop · try 72 hours
Say this is the last reminder only when it really is the final enabled message. Do not invent expiring stock, reserved items or an expiring discount.
Subject: One last reminder from {{store}}
Hi {{first_name}},
This is our last reminder about this checkout. If you still want the items you saved, you can review them below.
If now is not the right time, there is nothing you need to do. Thanks for considering {{store}}.
The {{store}} teamButton text: Review my cartUse the tokens your editor supports
WakeMyCart supplies the actual recovery link through the email button. The button labels here are suggestions for an editable Pro design; Free uses its standard recovery button. Do not paste a sample link or another shopper’s recovery URL into your message.
| Token | Purpose | Check before sending |
|---|---|---|
| {{store}} | Store name | Use the name shoppers recognize. |
| {{first_name}} | Shopper’s first name | Check your preview when a name is missing. |
| {{cart_total}} | Formatted cart total | Checkout recalculates current pricing and availability. |
| {{item_count}} | Number of cart items | Keep the surrounding sentence readable for one or several items. |
| {{coupon_code}} | An approved generated coupon | Pro only. An offer can be withheld; keep the message useful without it. |
Add a final offer only when the numbers allow it
With Pro, configure the final eligible step’s offer and its safeguards. Product costs, expenses, currency and discount limits can cause an offer to be withheld. Keep a neutral subject and body that still make sense without a coupon; let the approved offer block communicate the actual terms.
Generated coupons in this release are single use, restricted to the shopper email, nonstacking, exclude sale items and expire after 48 hours. Check the actual coupon settings and redemption behavior on your store.
Evaluate orders and unsubscribes, not just clicks
Compare the sent messages, attributed orders, discounts and refunds for the same reporting window. Attribution shows an association with recovery; it does not prove the reminder caused an extra sale.
In Pro, randomize one change at a time, such as the second subject line. Keep eligibility and other messages consistent. Review the uncertainty and sample counts before adopting a winner; there is no universal minimum sample that makes every test conclusive.
