Let shoppers email themselves their cart

Set up optional Pro cart capture, keeping one requested link separate from ongoing reminders.

WakeMyCart documentation · Free 1.1.8 · Pro 1.1.8

Start with the cart-page form

  1. Update Free first, then Pro to 1.1.0 or later. Keep Free active and check your Pro licence and local sender.
  2. In WordPress, open WakeMyCart → Setup & settings → Let shoppers email their cart. Review your merchant privacy notice before turning on the optional cart form.
  3. Preview the form on your store. It offers one requested cart email, with a separate unchecked choice for ongoing cart reminders.
  4. Use your own test address to request a cart link without selecting reminders. Check the actual inbox and restore the cart; confirm no reminder journey was started.
  5. Repeat with reminders selected, confirm the choice through the requested email, then test purchase, withdrawal and unsubscribe. Complete the store’s normal sending checks before enabling reminder recovery.

Two requests, two different purposes

Shopper actionResult
Selects Email me my cartRequests one email containing a link to that cart; does not subscribe to reminders or newsletters.
Also selects the unchecked reminders optionRequests optional reminders; the shopper must confirm through the requested email before this form enrolls them. Existing suppression and eligibility checks still apply.

Withdraws reminder permissionStops future reminders. Emails already accepted by the sender cannot be recalled.

Use prompts sparingly

The inline cart form is the starting point. Desktop exit and mobile prompts are separate optional settings; show them only when there is a cart to save. Shoppers can dismiss the form and continue shopping.

Test keyboard navigation, enlarged text and your actual theme on desktop and mobile. Do not cover checkout or require an email address to continue browsing. Avoid adding a second prompt when another installed plugin already provides one.

Cart-email safeguards

A recipient can receive one requested cart email per UTC day. Additional limits allow up to three request attempts per browser session, five per network address and 100 per store per UTC day. These protect the public cart form from abuse; they are separate from recovery-reminder frequency and do not impose a contact allowance on Free or Pro.

Desktop exit prompts wait at least 30 seconds. Mobile prompts wait 45 seconds. Both are optional, dismissible and limited to the cart page; dismissal lasts for the browser tab session.

Read capture results carefully

A requested cart link is different from a reminder or a recovered order. Review request, sending and reminder-opt-in counts separately. A provider’s acceptance confirms handoff, not inbox placement.

Cart requests and reminder records stay on the merchant’s WordPress installation. The chosen sender receives the recipient and email contents. Normal account licensing does not upload shopper records to WakeMyCart. Your store notice must cover the enabled feature and actual provider.

Requested links and encrypted cart details expire after seven days. De-identified activity counts remain for 30 days and hashed abuse limits for two days, through scheduled cleanup. Dismissal is remembered for the browser tab session without saving an email or cart in browser storage. Provider records and backups follow their separate retention.
